Geometric Pattern

Creating a geometric pattern, to link in with my brand logos for an oil company. Have chosen a whale as one of the animals to feature. The whale represents strength and fluidity, two key components of an oil company. The geometric pattern will incorporate into a hand drawn image of a whale, giving it a half an half approach.

Learning how to create geometric patterns on illustrator.

Created a New Document. Size 1200px by 1200px. Set the colour setting relevant to the printer.

Create a range of colours from swatches, put into a group so easier to use.

Create rectangles. Change the fill option to gradient. Created a square for each colour you want to incorporate into the design.

Draw a rectangle to cover the whole document, change the fill to NO fill.

Then create lots of anchor points, try to connect them all so not left with any lose ends. Then hit divide on the pathfinder tool.

Right click on the document an ungroup all items.

Hold shift select a number of shapes and fill them in using your gradient squares on the side.

Fill in all the shapes. Take off the stroke.

Finish shows a range of colours, in different varying gradients. Can add circles of radial gradient effect to highlight certain aspects.
